“There is always a way out of a situation. Might be ugly. Might leave you feeling like the earth had gone and shifted under your feet. But there is always a way around.”
― Jojo Moyes, The Giver of Stars
This was one book, I could never quite see what would come next. You got to know each character as if they were a good friend. And as they experienced the trials and struggles that women in the late 1920’s experienced, you found yourself laughing, screaming and crying right along with them.
JoJo Moyes created characters that you could love and a few you just wanted to hate. But it was the relationship between the Librarians that stays with you and lingers long after you put the book down. It spoke about those friendships we have that daily life might dull but when something important comes up, you find the fire within burned brightly. It is the friendship of women who labor together. They support each other and trust each other with what is important. It reminds me of the friendship I share with my friends in my choir. A friendship that spans the test of time and is hardened in the daily and weekly labors we share. It is a friendship of understanding.
I highly recommend taking this journey. The book will make you cry, make you fearful, make you feel tenderness and anger and most enduringly make you smile with a full heart.
